Comprehensive contraceptive service delivery in a crisis setting

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) aimed to increase contraceptive use in Nigeria’s Borno State, where under-resourced health clinics failed to meet the SRH needs of women and girls. The IRC scaled up contraceptive use by introducing highly skilled staff, securing essential supplies, engaging community volunteers, and training both traditional birth attendants and government health workers.

MISP Implementation in Jordan

An inter-agency team studied the MISP implementation in Jordan’s Irbid City to evaluate SRH service access for urban refugees. The study revealed lacking SRH services in urban settings, insufficient stakeholder participation, and limited clinical care for patients with STIs and/or histories of sexual violence.

MISP Coordination in Nepal

An evaluation of MISP implementation, as led by an inter-agency team, revealed that MISP activities in Kathmandu and Sindhupalchowk District, Nepal offered sparse, low-quality SRH services. The evaluation also illuminated major gaps in the communities’ understanding of SRH services, importance of receiving care, and understanding of sexual violence and STIs.

MISP Implementation in Tanzania

The International Rescue Committee deployed an emergency coordinator to establish two reproductive health clinics and one maternity unit for displaced Burundians living in Tanzania’s Nyarugusu refugee camp. Disaster preparedness measures taken pre-crisis strengthened SRH coordination and catalyzed high-impact MISP implementation.

MISP Implementation in Nigeria

Focused on serving displaced women and girls in northeast Nigeria, the International Rescue Committee initiated MISP activities by deploying a reproductive health coordinator, analyzing service gaps, recruiting more highly skilled staff, and providing capacity building for clinical care providers.
